Bunk Beds near a stairwell? Sign In/Join
posted
As a mom of young children, the bunk beds set onto a wooden floor just steps away from an open stairwell just scream "hazard" to me! And schlepping laundry downstairs, down a hallway, through the kitchen and pantry is ridiculous! Are these homes designed for actual use?

The beds are a good 5 feet away from the stairs and they seem to have all the required railings. I don't see this as an issue.

There are pros and cons to first floor laundry rooms and second floor laundry rooms. Ours is off of our kitchen. We tend to live on our first floor the most so tending to laundry here isn't a big deal. Running up and down the stairs to a second floor laundry to start the load, switch it to the dryer and pull it from the dryer would be a hassle. Growing up ours was in the basement and we seemed to survive doing two flights of stairs from our bedrooms to the basement to do laundry.

This is also designed as a vacation home, so the bunk niche would probably be used infrequently.

Any advice given here is general in nature and is not necessarily valid for your given area. If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. I have no way of knowing if you have the skills needed to complete the tasks you are asking about, when in doubt seek professional assistance.

My advice may be worth exactly what you pay me for it. :-) For the record I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I love the wort, schlepping, H'leben! Gute, gute.
Du bist recht, a two story laundry upper location usually fits the bill. But remember, the Master Bedroom is on the main level. :>)
And, now I will go hide somewhere so's the little darling won't have me learning how many cups of Tide that thing needs.!!!

Honestly...the bunk beds are for renting out the house. I mean unless you have 5 kids would you need to use the bunk beds.

The house is set up for renting to 2 family's on vacation. One master room, another room with a queen size bed, twins in yet another room (for children) and the bunks for over flow of children. I bet you could even add a fold out couch for more children.

Hey Vinnie,
There is a pull out bed in that living area upstairs, so it is already ready. Now I have 4 grown children and 6 grands, so i could fill every one, plus. I would put a pet gate at the top of the stairs when the grands arrive and problem solved for kiddos getting up at night Edith ann 1950. There is always a solution..

Since the master is on laundry room floor area, works for me..

I've already decided to take them out and make that area into a built in wall of cabintry for a scrappbooking room. My 3rd bedroom is my SB room now, so with that nook, perfect space!

I have a second floor laundry and I detest it. I never spend time upstairs during the day so it is a real pain to head upstairs to change laundry over and fold. I even bring the laundry down to fold on occasion. It's made my laundry not nearly as efficient as when I had it just off the kitchen.

Oh no Vinnie, but on a couple occasions we have had some back home for short times, waiting for escrows to close, etc.

I just love them to visit and as you say spoil them. Like my framed picture I got for Christmas sataes, "Grandkids, I should have had them first". I actually love being a mom as well.
Would'nt it be fun to actually have a place for everyone when they come to visit?
