I've never used this very much. Should I purchase in dye lots, or am I safe in randomly purchasing the white? I have some at home and wanted to start a project, but I know I don't have enough to finish.

Most yarn colors are pretty much stable nowadays. I don't really pay too much attention to dye lots, except when I'm getting reds or purples. They still have a tendency to release color a little when washed.

Thanks, Linda. I usually do go by the dye lots just to be on the safe side with yarn, but the threads are totally new for me. I would think there wouldn't be much variance in white, but wanted to be sure.

A word of caution here, I am a thready, and I think you should realize there is white, and there is white, some come creamier than others, and if you are doing a tablecloth for example, you wouldn't want a creamy white mixed in with a white white. Consider your project, don't jump the gun, and use care in this, if small projects, not a problem, but larger ones deserve to be treated with high regard, and this would lead to watching dye lots I feel. Your choice obviously, but take into consideration please?

Have a great day!!!!!

I agree with Wisconsingal. There are variations in whites also, though you wouldn't think so. It is better to purchase same dye lots as much as possible to ensure an even project. I am a yarnie but still make sure that my dye lots (and even if it does say no dye lots, I check the similar numbers on the skeins and make sure I buy enough of the same ones). It is not only white but even blacks that may have a slight variation.

Just my little opinion.

I do agree with the other ladies about larger, special projects. I always try to buy at least one extra ball over what the pattern calls for before I start a large job so that I make sure that I have enough. For smaller projects, though, I don't usually check dye lots.

Hello Fourthdaymom and everyone.
I would go with the matching dye lots. From experience, I was making a purse and had left over white yarn that looked like they matched. Well, in the sunshine you could see a difference, so now I do dyelot numbers or go out in the brite sun and compare.

Thanks, everyone. I will definitely go by the dye lots. I wasn't sure the thread had dye lots -- I was looking at a jumbo skein one day and didn't see it, but I was in a hurry that day. I will go back and look more carefully.
