I'm looking at a pattern for a baby blanket that suggests a finger weight yarn. I cannot find any finger weight in any local stores. Can someone tell me if it would be comparable with #10 crochet thread? What's the difference?

Hi Dale
Maybe this site might help?
http://www.yarnstandards.com/weight.html
http://www.yarnies.com/Fingering_Weight_Yarns.htm
I think it is also the kind for babies, like Bernat bay yarn.
I hope that helps

Lizzy-Lou

Do you have a magic mart where you live? I found some finger yarn there. Fingering yarn is not like thread at all its more like very thin baby yarn.

No -- no Magic Mart. I've never heard of that one. I have found several places I can order it, but I was just wondering about the texture. One search I did for fingering yarn mentioned Lion Crochet Thread and that is what made me start wondering about the #10. I would guess that even if the thread was comparible in size it would feel more coarse.

Thanks!

Here are some useful links. In case this is new to you-the charts with WPI means Wraps Per Inch. You can measure this using a round pencil. Wrap your yarn around and measure. I'd recommend wrapping longer and measuring in the middle. Naturally you can purchase a gadget with inch markings and get the same results.
