I'm fairly new to crochet My niece is having a baby in a few months and asked me to crochet a baby afghan for her. What is a good size?

Thanks for any help! I really enjoy crocheting, I just wish I could learn more stitches. Smile

I'm hoping you are having fun with the crochet. I've made lots of baby afghans and I usually make them about 40x50 Yours could be smaller, I like the larger size as it covers more and they can use it longer. Show a picture when you get it done. Hope this helps. Pat

If I am using a pattern stitch that I can determine how big I want an afghan, I also make baby afghans a bit larger so the baby can grow into it. I also do not fringe baby afghans.

Sometimes my pattern has a specific measurement, then I just follow that pattern.

Have fun with it.

Most I have seen are 36" x 36" or 38" x 38". Some have fringe but I personally prefer a crocheted border of some type.

I also like the larger ones 40"x40" up to 40"x50". It's so nice to see a toddler using them to nap and watch tv. Small ones are nice to tuck around them in their carrier.
