I finally made the venture into antique furniture at a sale on the weekend and got these two pieces. Crazy thing is I don't know what I got. I can't find any information on either style of piece online anywhere. Can anyone help with some information. I paid $105 for the rocker, and $12.50, Yes, $12.50 for the chair. The rocker is 36 inches high at the highest point with a 15' high seat and the leather round seat. What age are these from and what style or mode are they? Thanks all for your help.

Your rocker is from the turn of the century or early 1900s to 1915. They style of rocker never really had a name. Now some do link it to Art Nouveau style because of the flowing lines but most in the trade just call it turn of the century.

It has quarter sawn oak back but the back is veneer meaning the quarter sawn oak is just a thin layer of wood. It has applied decoration meaning the carved work is applied to the main structure and not carved into it. Where during the Victorian era much of the carvings was done to the structure of the furniture. A big plus on your rocker you have the old leather seat these are hard to find intact and you need to care for it.

The chair is Eastlake Victorian style. It dates from about 1885 to 1900 and as likely a part of a parlor set though a single chair coudl be bought and used was a hall or entry chair. Eastlake kept some of the carving into the structure that dominated the Victorian era. But they were starting to apply some decoration. Generally Eastlake has the bead, lines and shape carvings for they decoration. Much simplier than the earlier Victorian furniture that used objects and flowing lines in their carvings. The chair appears to be walnut but I can't be sure.

I really love the parlor chair with the fan decoration. It is also very nicely apholstered. Love the fabric. Great deal too!

Thanks!

I love the fabric too and the chair. It was a great first purchase for me, although a dangerous one as it has now fueled my appetite!!!
