hi, i'm from england and i come from stoke-on- trent, where a lot of pottery is made and for my university dissertation i'm asking the question, 'how are the pottery brands effected as a result of outsourcing?' if anybody has any opinions i'd love to know, cuz the more research the better. Have any of you brought pottery from staffordshire, but won't but it now it's made in china, etc. any comments please add them. thanks

I always think very seriously before buying any contemporary item made in China. While I know the quality of such goods has/is improving I seldom buy such items. I know the reason for moving production to China is based on economics but it changes my opinion of companies doing this. IMO their reputation changes from "quality" to "unethical".
I may change how I feel if & when China ever improves working conditions, human rights and environmental issues.

What a great topic. A few weeks ago I went into a store and saw Royal Doulton ladies that were made in Indonesia and I was sick about it. I will not buy outsourced English pottery and I don't think it's got much value. I love the real thing. We're in the same boat here in the U.S. You can't buy anything that's made here anymore. Jobs are gone. A way of life is gone for many. It's very sad.
I have heard that the Longaberger company has outsorced thier pottery business to China. I'm not positive that's true but if it is I won't buy any more.
Just lately I've become a lot more sensitive to products made in China and try hard to buy American, or what ever the original country of origin is. English china from England, Polish pottery from Poland etc, not knock offs from China.
It's gotten almost impossible to find things not made in China. It's frightening that we've become so dependent on a country that is not necessairly our friend.
i bought some myott turkey plates this past holiday season and was shocked to see they were made in columbia---guess that's somewhat better than china.
