I have a beautiful set of old glassware (don't know what else to call it) 6 pieces of stemware, a large bowl, an interesting plate & a couple of other pieces; all matching. They were given to my grandparents for their 50th wedding anniversary so they are trimmed in gold. (50th anniv. was in 1941).

I was wondering who to contact to see if I can get more pieces to this set or to find out how much they are worth, for insurance purposes? Can anyone help?
    Thanks.

    Dear mgt,
sorry that it has taken me so long to answer your post. Have not been on the board much.
Anyway, besides "Replacements" you might try taking a peice or 2 to a musume that has a section on Glasswear and china,a department store that sells fine china and glasswear,( they may have a referance book or something), also try the libary(sp). I am sure that they will have referrance books that may help you identify the pattern ect. Do any of the pieces have a "makers mark" or symble(sp) on them? That would help you to identify the peices. Also try taking a picture of the one of the glases ect and posting it on the antique and collectable board. I know the people on that board are very helpfull. If you have household insurance, ask your insurance man if he can help you find a place to identify them and have them appraised. We tend to forget that insurance people have a lot of contacts and the ability to put you in touch with the people that you need to know,in cases like this.
At the risk of offending any antique dealers on the board, I would only use them as a resource as a last resort. I have had several bad experiences with under evaluations from dealers who hoped to buy things from me cheaply(sp).

Thank you Msmary...appreciate all the ideas...I'll have to look for a maker's mark, but I doubt I'll see one. Reference books at the library sounds good...I'll check that out. Sure do appreciate the help from both of you. Smile
