I posted this on the general decorating board and then thought of posting here.....
Hi ALL !!
My mother-in-law just passed away and we're having to empty her place...
She had many beautiful antiques - furniture, glass, lamps.....
MY DH believes this table is really old.... He turned it upside down and said it looks like it was handcarved....
Was hoping maybe someone here knows something about the style - etc....
Sorry the photos turned out somewhat blurry
Thanking you in advance for any feedback....

Acouple of question and sugestions. From the picture of the underside of the table it looks like it is "pegged" togather? How are the legs attached? If nails are used are the heads of the nails round or square? The shape of the nail heads will give youa clue as to the age( square heads(I think) are older then round heads). If you are near a University or a musume you could take the table to either place and see if they could help you out. You could also take it to an antique store and see what they have to say. Or to an apreaser of fine art. With the antique store, I would becarefull unless you know who you are dealing with. They may lowball the valvu and try to buy it from you. Hope that helps, marymac
It most likely was hand carved, but that does not mean it is necessarily very old. They still make this sort of style in the Orient and India-- and it is beautiful work. It was probably a high end import item. Pakistan could be the source. Just google "Pakistan hand made furniture" and you will see a whole lot of this style, especially w/those large flowers. It is still fairly valuable: a few hundred probably-- and since the new stuff follows patterns many hundreds of years old, you can't know how modern it might be unless you get a professional appraisal.
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.

Thank you both. I think we are going to have an appraiser come here - just so we have some idea of value of pieces.... Heck, even if it turns out that they are not valuable, I will feel better knowing and will be able to let our children benefit from whatever we find out.
Again - thanks so much for your input - it is must appreciated !!!
