About 10 yrs ago I picked up a Chatty Cathy at an estate sale. It still talks and is from 1961 I believe because it has the cloth covered speaker. Can anyone give me information on this? Do ya think it's worth putting on Ebay? It has orginal clothes but no shoes. (Just wondering if my 10 buck investment was worth it)

I'm not anantiques person by any stretch of the imagination, but I saw the title, "Chatty Cathy" and just had to chime in!

I had a Chatty Cathy and absolutely adored her! She was, far and away, my favorite doll... well, until Barbie invaded my bedroom!

I didn't know anyone even knew about Chatty Cathy. Anytime I've mentioned her name to people, I just get blank stares in return. Then I have to explain who she was Frown.

In any event, congrats on your find! If I were you, I'd keep her Wink. I think you'd probably do quite well with her on Ebay.

Chatty Cathy -- oh the memories!

I LOVED my Chatty Cathy. Mine had the blue jumper dress with blonde hair. She's probably packed away somewhere in the garage with my Betsy Wetsy my other Dollies - lol. I know her red velvet coat with white fur headband and her pink jammies and the yellow dress with the blue-red colored pleat are stored away out there. Remember the little shoe horn that came with her in her big, long pink box? I loved that doll. Smile

hey Jackie, I still have the cabbage patch doll that was recalled. It was eating everything even girl's hair. I bought it for my daughter when she was about 4 or 5 and she's 17, and the doll is still eating. (lol)

I also have one of those recalled Cabbage Patch Dolls. My son picked it out for his little sister for Christmas when she was two, he was almost eight. She loved that doll!! Son will be 17 soon!

What fond memories! Between me and my four sisters we had Chatty Cathy, Thumbalina, and Betsy Wetsy and Sweet Sue, Barbie and Midge and Skipperm and a few Liddle Kiddles. My favorite was Penny Brite - advertised as the first bendable doll.

Ah, you have brought back memories. I also had a Chatty Cathy and a Thumbelina. My Thumbelina had a knob in the back you wound up to make her move. You can get both the Chatty Cathy and the Thumbelina new through Vermont Country Store. I've asked for the Thumbelina for a couple of years, but DH isn't getting the hint. Either that or the $100 price tag is too steep for a doll for an almost 50 year old woman!

I had a Betsy Wetsy too. Her body deteriorated due to giving her milk in the bottle. Wanted to be real.

My younger sisters had Barbies. Can't remember who had the Wendy Bendy. Think one of sisters had a Mrs. Beasley, Buffey's doll on Family Affair.

    Thanks for the memories.

I had a Chatty Cathy, too! What I can't believe is that I am old enough to have had a doll which is now considered an antique. I am not that old! I am not that old. I am not that old . . . .! (if I say it enough I may believe it soon!)

I still have my Tiny Tears doll with the cloth diaper. We learned how to sew by making doll clothes. I remember all these dolls except Wendy Bendy. I have a large cowgirl doll with blonde curly hair but cant remember the official name.

I still have my Chatty Cathy from my childhood. Blue jumper, and blond hair. Oh, how I loved her. I also still have my tiny tears baby. I played with them for hours and hours. Ahhh, it takes me back.

I to had a Chatty Cathy, probably because my name is Cathy and I was chatty, also a Thumblina, and a Suzy Smart with the blackboard and desk, and many more. I still have all of my childhood dolls since Mom and Dad didn't throw anything away.I think we had the best toys then, not so technical.

Chatty Cathy wasn't really a 'huggy doll' because her doll body was that hard molded plastic so, for back in the 50's and for having a voicebox, I'd consider her 'technical'. Something else that was creepy about her was that flesh colored patch on her chest. It always looked so 'medical' to me. Did anyone ever open that up just to look inside and see how she worked? Wasn't there a little record inside (I kind of think maybe once back then I looked).
