Hi all!

I have silver- a lot of different pieces. I need to sell some. Where do go? Like one of those "We Buy Gold and Silver" places, or antique dealer, or jewelry store?

I also have an antique bedroom set-dresser, chest of drawers and night stand from King Furniture in New York, It needs to be refinished. It has Wax and Laquer stamped on the back. all the drawers are dove-tailed. Do I sand and re-stain or sand and paint black? I can't afford to have prefessionally re-finished.

What kind of silver? Flatware, sterling, jewelry? Just know that you won't get near what you think it's worth or what you paid for it. I went to one of our jewelry stores and sold some rings and chains and got several hundred dollars. I would steer. Clear of the places where you mail the items to them.

Refinished means different hings to different people. What you want to correct makes a difference in how you need to proceed.

Is it dull and dirty.. almost black? Is it scratched? Deep or shallow? That is the kind of info we need.

You may be able to just do a little work or you may need to do a lot... it all depends.

My silver is sterling. The bedroom set is scratched, dirty and the finihed is completely worn off in places down to bare wood.

Could you post a pic of the furniture? When you say "worn off" down to the bare wood, what does that mean? It would make sense if the furniture is veneered and not just solid wood. Repairing veneer is really a skilled job.

Can't you offer it for sale as is? If you refinish the furniture, you would be doing so to your taste and expertise. That may eliminate some of your potential buyers.

Here's an update:

Gave the furniture set away and taking tax cut. No time to refinish.

Met a wonderful, honest, local jeweler who was happy to buy my silver that I needed to sell. He also taught me alot about silver vs silverplate. We also did jewelry. What a wonderful couple of hours of fun we had!

I will probably put my vintage silverplate on ebay. From what I've seen on there- I have more useful pieces-platters,bowls,flatware etc. So, I will need to be busy this summer getting photos and cataloging what I want to sell.
