The previous owners of our house left it behind. It looks like a press of some sort. The 2x4 on top fits in the slot on the sides. There's a ratchet mechanism on the right that's used to bring the 2x4 down to put pressure on whatever is inside.
You can also see that most of the front panel can be unlatched and opened upward to allow access to the inside. The markings on the front are quite worn, but I can make out "Steel & Ironworks" in large letters as well as "De Pere, Wis." as the probable location of the company. There is also a small logo near the top and what looks like the word "Gasoline" next to it.
It measures 4.5' high x 4' wide at the base x 2' deep, and weighs a ton. I'd hate to destroy it if it has any value. I'd also love to find out what it was used for.
Thanks, Mike
