Also called First Monday. Here's the website for it

http://www.firstmondaycanton.com/

I love going there. You'll find the best deals by avoiding the more permanent vendors in the buildings. I prefer just browsing through the people that set up their canopies on the lawn.

Don't think you will cover it in one day! There is no way. Pick a section and check it out. Once you've done that, you've seen everything because it is just a repeat.

I don't go any more...it's just gotten too big. Years ago - 70s and 80s we went nearly every month except for the really hot or really cold months. I have three items I loved dearly that were purchased at Canton back then: a hump-back trunk $25, a Seth-Thomas clock $35, and a Case antler handled carving set $20. I don't think there are bargains like that any more. (I also got a beautiful dining room set that turned out to be too large for my home so sold it later.) If you can stay through Sunday, people are more willing to "deal" because they don't want to have to pack it up for the return trip home.

Since you're from CO, book a motel well in advance. Get there Thursday if at all possible. Be prepared for horrific traffic Saturday and maybe Friday - backed up even to the interstate highway. Eat early or late because of the food lines. Wear comfortable shoes. Carry a backpack for hauling your small treasures. Don't forget the water.

Years back there was a/an (?) ispanic woman who made the best Mexican food. She rolled and cooked her flour tortillas while you waited. Ah, thanks for jogging the memory!!!

Thanks. We went and really enjoyed it. It is BIG we spent 5 hr. first day and 3 the next. We want to go back. Also you Texans have some great antique stores.
We went on Thurs. is was a perfect day over cast and slight breeze. Also Fri. am. There were no lines or anything. We had the best time. Stayed in Terrell because of your info. We checked and all hotels in Canton were booked.
Also carried lots of water in our basket with wheels. Boy they make good money renting those. Glad we had our own!
thanks again

DH and I have a really funny story about the Canton Flea Market. We were vacationing around Texas and saw a brochure about this HUGE flea market. Since we were in the area, we decided to check it out on our way to our next stop.

Stopped and wandered for several hours but weren't very impresssed. Pretty small and mostly junky items and lots of animals which we did not like seeing for sale. We agreed that things may be bigger in Texas but their flea markets weren't anything to write home about.

Headed on down the road and ran into a massive traffic jam and then realized IT was for the real flea market. Apparently, we had stopped at some "renegade" booths outside of actual area!

By then we had wasted so much time on the first area that we had no time to visit the real one! So down the road we went! Eek

PS. Always wished we had found the real thing first; maybe next time!!!

LOL So sorry Idaho! Y'all come back and see us again!

There's another large market in Round Top (between LaGrange and Brenham - Brenham is home to Blue Bell ice cream). To the best of my memory, it is held just once a year in the fall (maybe twice - once in the spring). I've never been...
