Been going thru boxes in the attic....ran across these. Anyone recognize them? The cords tell me they're probably 20s/30s but I have no idea. They're not heavy so DH says they're not bronze.

I have similar statuettes...mine are made of 'chalk' I was told. Glaneuse is the title of the piece I believe means gleaners & the Ruchot could be the artist. That's all I know. Don't know if it helps. You may want to take them to an antique dealer & he may be able to help you figure out what they're made of. Good Luck. Smile

I would also say that there was probably a glass shade of some sort.

In French "par" means through or by, so your pieces were probably made by Ch.Ruchot. Try using a magnet on the pieces to determine if they are brass (the magnet won't stick) or the more common spelter (the magnet will stick). In either case, I bet they are worth a decent amount - especially because you have a matched pair.

not much comes up when you google ch ruchot, but I did find this website. It's the 3rd statue from the bottom, "Dawn" by Ch.Ruchot, said it's made of spelter. Unfortunately, it sold, so there isn't a price on it.

The 6th item down on this page is a statue clock signed by Ch.Ruchot with 2 candleabra

more specifically people that "glean" or at clean up after a harvest, which is why their aprons are tucked up and they look like they are carrying sheafs of wheat.

I'd agree with them dating from 20's or 30's. Very pretty pair! Lucky you.....

Can you post a picture of the (inside) bottom? Is it hollow?
