I know that there is a cap on donations when filing taxes. If I were to donate an item or more to a church that surpasses the cap, would I receive a credit for the next year's donations? I'm going to search the 'net, but would like to hear feedback if anybody else has experience with this. TIA!

I would doubt that you could carry it over to next year. I would suggest a phone call to your tax person or even H&R Block. They could tell you in a flash.
