older or unique postcards are certainly collectible but usually not very valuable. Don't know about playing cards

Unique postcards can be very valuable. At a recent auction, I saw an old scrapbook filled with postcards go for $100. A box holding 200+ went for about $150. Loads of collage artists, scrapbookers and artist trading card devotees love them. Personally, I am willing to pay $5 to $10 a piece for them, depending on what I'm looking for. The same goes for the playing cards. Last week I paid $6 for a Vargas girl playing card. That adds up to $252 for a deck.

I ran across a box of assorted post cards. Many from the war era. Where is there a good reference guide to find their value? Many of them have the name Curt Teich printed like the company. I did private duty with his dying wife in Lake Forest, IL. I knew that they made maps for the troops, but was pleasantly surprised to see the name on the postcard. Any info would be great!

Postcards are a great way to collect things without taking up alot of room. I have a number of collections(Christmas villages, vintage candy containers, 40's/50's kitchenware, etc...) and needed something that does not take up room as my collections kept expanding. I now collect restaurant, hotel/motel, nightclub, and some scenic/travel cards. You can have hundreds or thousands and they will take up little room. Most postcards can be had for a dollar or two. Prices vary widely, especially on Ebay, where people charge $5-10 a card in some cases. Unless a card is in good shape, you probably want to pass it up unless it is rare or has personal meaning to you.
