I recently acquired a beautiful old oriental silk painting...It is quite large, and the colors are very vibrant...My trouble has been trying to find a website or group that takes interest in such art...Maybe I have missed something??? Does anyone have any ideas about where to find info on my acquisition???? Thanks A Lot
Thanks so much for the advice, but unfortunately, I have already exhausted my googling ablities...I feel I have searched every different word combo I can think of... But I love that, the first time I have ever done a message board, the very first reply is from a gal named Darlene Darlene...That's my Mom, and she would have said the same thing! So, thanks for that...
You say it's oriental...which Asian country of origin? That can make a lot of difference and what is in the painting tells a story. You might what to focus your search on key subjects in the painting and colors. Can you get a good clear photo of this painting to share?
I've had good luck with a site at www.asianart.com. You can post a picture in the forum and an expert will eventually identify it for you. Sometimes it takes a couple of weeks, but it's been very helpful for me and it's free. Other forum users can post, too, and share their knowledge.
Thanks for the advice...I wish I knew the origin, alas I do not... Unfortunately, my digi.camera is broken... I am leaning towards Japanese, but it is really just a guess...It is around 30" x 40", on a "white" background and has a beautiful blue peacock as focal point, surrounded by many large flowers/leaves and a smaller peacock in flight... There also seems to be some sort of lizard hanging about... I am sure there is a story in there somewhere... I am trying to borrow a camera right now to give better info. on it... Thanks again... Peace
