I rarely post on here, but love to look at all your creations!!! I wanted to try to make one of the glass block lights with the Christmas lights inside. I found a tutorial online that says you have to use a 20 light strand and if a higher strand is used it'll catch on fire. The only lights I can find at the craft store are 35 light strand. Is this true that you can only use 20 light strands? Has anyone made these before and what do you use?

I make them with 50 light strings. None have ever caught fire. Some are 7 years old.

I too have made them with larger, 35 lights, I think, and they are fine. Pretty difficult to cause glass to burn, I'd think. Good luck with your glass blocks.

The most important thing to remember is to not totally cover the hole. I use ribbon and start on one side of the hole, wrap up the side, across the top down the side and up to the hole. I fold over the end and glue. Make sure the hole is big enough for airflow. 50 lights should be o.k. for the 8x8 blocks but i wouldn't use them for the smaller ones.
