Was checking out towels for kitchen projects at Wallyworld and their .97 towels are now $1.50 and the same for their 2 potholders from .97 to $1.50. I sell them for $3.50 each. It's getting to the point of little or no profit for my crochet towels and also the ones with a potholder sewn on........Talk about inflation huh? Just venting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am sure that increase in prices are due to the shipping of them. I think we had better hang onto our bootstraps things are going to get worse. I am a painter and I just purchased some supplies from Canada. The shipping was out of control but I needed the products.Cannot order anymore and the sad thing is how do you price your painting so that you won't lose your money yet make it affordable for someone to buy.The craft fairs are not doing well and either is the Farmers Markets at least in Florida. I am not sure about other states.
i just came from wally world also, and the prices on just about everythin i buy were up. last week a box of cookies my kids like were two for four dollars... today one box 2.78, everything is 20 or 30 cents highter, multiply that by the thirty or so items in your cart.... plus the addition ridiculous gas prices to get to and from there, somethings got to give, and i mean soon. just venting also!
How long have you had your towel sets priced at $3.50? I am just suggesting that there comes a time when you have to adjust for inflation yourself too.
I make these adorable candymen, and I have made them for 15 years probably. They are still priced the same as when I started. This year that will be changing, and it won't be much...just an additional .25.
What you can do is charge $4.00 each or 2 for $7.00 (that would bring it back to the original price, but you would sell more).
You don't want to overprice, but you can't spend that kind of time and money and not make anything back for it...otherwise you might as well NOT be doing it.

I've noticed craft shows are charging more for their entry fees. There is a Fiesta at one of our missions and they are charging double what they charged last year. It has been going on for years and it is after their Sunday service, but I need to reconcider my going this year. I'll calculate the price of gas (both ways) and try to talk them into lowering their prices... Otherwise I will have to increase my prices too. It makes it very difficult when we have to travel to any shows with gas being so close to $4.00 (I imagine it'll be over $4.50 by next month here in central California)

I do an outdoor summer festival on Father's day weekend and the price went up from $85 to $100. this year..........it's a great spot to have it and sales are pretty good but I really do think I need to adjust my prices some. Kind of the trickle down effect huh??
I guess we have to. I print out a price sheet for the customers to see so they don't have to ask first. I have known people to leave a booth rather than asking a price. I would rather have a price list than to mark everything I have... <g> I've been selling the potato bags for $5. for three years now - I need to raise them to $6.00 I think - the supplys (especially the cotton batting has gone up in price this year... The increase will cover the price increase and the cost of gasoline...
Here's a picture of one of the bags...

I know what you mean, I am not going to do any shows until fall because the cost of the shows are going up and the price of gas, and the springs shows were so bad that I made no profit.

Actually, higher prices are due to the original undervaluation of Chinese currency and the desire for the Chinese to break into lucrative American markets. With US demands to "level the playing field" economically and higher wages being paid to Chinese workers and a weaker dollar internationally, Walmart and other users of foreign imports will more than double their prices this year.
