I have succeeded in changing my avatar, but it's been SO large. What is the recommended size?

I don't know how to fix these things since my avatar has been sitting there so many years already. But I did look at the details which were 26.81KB and 48px X 48px. Mine is a moving avatar so I don't know if these numbers would be the same for a photo. I would try going back to your picture and try downsizing by maybe 1/2???

ETA - Your mushroom is less KB (no motion?) but also 48px X48px. Aunt Diane's is 108px X 144px.
