For those that missed this and for the new people on the board I thought I would repost an idea that got passed around.

Last year one of the ladies (HGTV board) made a gift box with "A Tag" to put on the grave of a relative. The box was 10 x 10 made out of wood and wrapped in a plastic type of wrapping paper and the bow and the pretties were weather proof also.
One of the ladies mentioned that she would just put her gift under the tree because she lived to far away...This is how this idea was born.
Starting a tradition...

..."What a great idea to just place it under the tree if you live to far away. Beautiful thought!"
"Memory Box filled with love." Wouldn't that be a wonderful tradition to start. Just think that box could be around for years to be passed on for the next generation.
I can hear the Christmas story that would go with it"...

It is Christmas Eve and John is bending to place an old wrapped gift under the tree when his mind fills with the conversation he once had with his Mother many years ago.

>"Mom, why do you put this old empty box under the tree every year? What is it about and who is it for?"
**'Well Johnny it is called a Memory Box and your Great Great Grandmother made it years ago. It is filled with wonderful memories of those in our family that are no longer here to share this day with us. And someday you will have it under your tree."
>"But the box feels empty Mom?"
**"No, it will never be empty. Did you read the gift tag?"

Johnny picked up the box and read the old tattered tag that is attached...

We took an ordinary box, as empty as can be.
We filled it with a special gift and we wrapped it carefully.
No need to ever open it, just leave the ribbon tied.
And hold it tightly to your heart, because our love for you is inside.

The idea and especially the poetic sentiment, is beautiful.

What a great idea. Our family will definately do this. Our 18 year old grandson was killed in a car accident in April and we miss him so much. Thank you for sharing this.
