I just finished this - well almost. I am looking for something to use as a handle for opening the lid. It is my first cigar box but I am totally addicted to them now and I plan to incorporate the Walnut hallow metal in one soon.
There are 5 pictures altogether:

Top or lid of box

Next the sides - only the front side has the license plate on it:

I agree, cool. Is that license plate on the outside something you stamped on metal yourself or is it paper? Looks to me like it's 3D, but I'm about half blind.

The license plate is 3D. It is a wooden sticker from Michael's.

Thank you for the comments.

Nicely done! He'll love it.

Some hinged hardware would make a great closure. In fact....if you have a metal clock hand it could be bent to make a hinge on the front of the box and would fit in with the paper (I assume it's paper) you used with the clock hands and arrows on it.
If you prefer a handle to lift up the lid you could use a small wood or ceramic knob, an interesting shaped wood piece, a tassel, or piece of leather. All depends on the look you're going for.

I'm trying to think of a piece you could use that would be or looks like it is related to the car but my mind is blank. lol

*You did remind me that I have a wooden cigar box/purse which I've never done anything with. It's base coated black and is just screaming for some metal accents. :-)

I have decided on using either a small toy car or the steering wheel from one spray painted to match the box colors, unless I can find a Monopoly game at the thrift store. If I can find one, I will use the car marker from that.

Great ideas! Love the idea of the Monopoly piece.

I love the thrift stores, they are my #1 craft supply place.
