I wanted to share this "trial run" in case someone else has been able to come up with a really good version.

When it comes time for assembly the dog bone would be shellaced as step one.

There is a miniature black pompom (positioned as 12 o'clock) that unfortunately does not show up well enough for you to see.

I've used brown sherpa for the fur. In this case I cut 3 seperate pieces, in the future I would make a pattern and cut only one piece of material.

Suggestions welcomed.

Very cute idea, What if you just used the fur for ears and added the pompom on top instead of the fur all on the top of head. Kinda like a poodle 's top knot!!I like your doggie otnie.

Ahhhhh . . . very cute!!

I don't know if you saw the one that my mom made many years ago. She used pipe cleaners for the ears.

Lady Hellen that is just too cute and so is the
one that Carolinas Mother made. Another idea is to just paint some Holly berries and leaves on one end in a corner and then using a paint pen personalize them with pets names for people. I have sold a bunch of them in years past. Mine were cut out of wood but I think your use of a real dog bone is great! (on its side instead of up and down)

I will keep working on the top.
Thanks for the feedback.

TdadCrafter,
None of the crafters are artistic, so we can't handle writing names on the bones which is a great idea. As a group that is our #1 weakness.

Such a cute idea! You could even paint the dog's name on it.
Thanks for sharing,
Joy

Very cute, but I'm afraid it would last about a minute in my house. Doggie would eat it right off the tree...

Am I incorrect in assuming that by shellacing
the bone (2 to 3 coates) it would totally block out the scent of the dog bone?

Update: I did adjust the length of the ears, and I removed the fur that was on top of the dog's head.

Lady Helen, I don't know how many coats my mother put on hers, but there is no odor and no bug activity. I'll be calling her later today and I'll try to remember to ask how she did hers.
